Legal requests and takedowns

How to tell us that something on BBR breaks the law, what your notice needs to include, and what happens after you send it.

Anyone can ask us to remove something from BBR that they believe is unlawful: the person or business concerned, or a lawyer acting for them. Here is how, and what to expect.

Before you send a notice

  • Most problems don’t need a legal notice. If a review shares personal information, comes from a competitor or breaks our community guidelines in another way, report it from the page: it reaches the same team, faster.
  • A legal notice is for content you believe breaks the law: for example, false statements of fact that harm your reputation, a photo or text that infringes your copyright, or your private information published without your consent.
  • We don’t remove reviews for being negative or critical. Honest opinions and first-hand accounts of an experience stay up, even when a business disagrees with them.

How to send a notice

E-mail your notice to

legal@bbr.com.bd

Write “Legal notice” in the subject line. Attach copies of any documents as PDF files or images. You can write in English or Bangla. You can also send it by post to Banani, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

There is no form for legal notices yet: one e-mail with everything listed below is all we need.

What to include

A complete notice lets us act quickly. Please include:

  1. Who you are: your name, and the person or business you act for, with your connection to them (for example, its owner or its lawyer).
  2. Where it is: the address (URL) of each page, and for a review, its title and the name of the member who wrote it.
  3. What is wrong: quote the exact statements you dispute and say why each one is unlawful. For a statement you say is false, tell us what the truth is.
  4. The legal basis: the law or the right you rely on, and a copy of any court order.
  5. Good faith: a statement that the information in your notice is accurate and that you send it in good faith.
  6. Your contact details: an e-mail address and a phone number where we can reach you.

We may show your notice to the person who posted the content, without your contact details, so that they can respond.

What happens next

  1. We confirm that we received your notice within one working day.
  2. We check the content against our guidelines and the law. Content that is clearly unlawful comes down at once.
  3. When the facts are disputed, we may ask the person who posted it to back up or change what they wrote. They have seven days to answer.
  4. We tell you what we decided and why: usually within three working days, or within ten when we asked the author first.
  5. If we remove a review or a post, we tell its author why, and if we take a listing down, we tell its owner why; an owner’s reply our team deletes goes without a notice. If we keep the content, we explain why to you.

While we look into a notice, the content usually stays visible, as a reported review does. Working days are Sunday to Thursday, except public holidays in Bangladesh.

Orders from courts and authorities

  • Courts and government authorities of Bangladesh can send orders to legal@bbr.com.bd.
  • We check every order with the authority that issued it before we act, and we act on a verified order within 24 hours.
  • Where the law allows, we tell the person whose content an order concerns.
  • We share information about our members only when the law requires it, and no more than the request needs.

Requests about your personal data

To see, correct or delete the personal data BBR holds about you, use your account settings or write to privacy@bbr.com.bd. Our privacy policy explains your rights.

Notices sent in bad faith

A notice must be honest. Don’t send one you know to be false, or one meant only to get a fair review taken down. We may stop acting on notices from people who send unfounded ones again and again.

Anything else, such as a correction to a listing or a question about your account, goes to the BBR team.
